Discover Scuba Diving
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onFriday, August 24, 2007 9:16 PM

Tonight we had three people taking their first breathes underwater.  Ali, Alex and Gary were guided through their first session scuba diving.  And what a way to experience it.  Their first breathes were taken in the shallow waters of the training pool at the Leeds International Pool.  Here we developed their skills and built confidence in themselves underwater.  After about 30mins of training and bimbling about the group were taken to the main pool.

We entered as a group into the main 50m long pool, it was a noticably cooler than the smaller training pool, all this was forgotten when the group turned the corner and saw the 5m deep diving pit emerge around the corner.  Even though I dive in this pool on a weekly basis, it is still very impressive, the students are well prepared for their open water dives after a couple of hours in this swimming pool.

Open Water, Open Water and Try Dives
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onWednesday, August 22, 2007 8:33 PM

What do you call two groups PADI Open Water students, 1 group of PADI Discover Scuba Diving and a whole bunch of dive team?

A standard night at Tong Recreation Centre....

The pool session this evening was from 6pm to 9pm, with an extra hour of in water time to allow all the training to be completed on schedule.  This level of flexibility allows students to catch up with missed session or just to develop their in-water skills by spending more time in the water.  If you would like to develop your skills contact the dive centre on 0113 245 7976.

August Open Water Course
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onWednesday, August 15, 2007 2:51 PM

The August PADI Open Water course started last night with Andrew and Jane.  The first session of the course was conducted by Alex and Vanessa.  From a nervous, less than elegant start to the session, the guys developed very quickly and were soon very comfortable.  They completed all four skills very easily and quickly acheived mastery.

Mike was also in the pool working with Nicolé, developing her confidence at demonstrating the core 20 skills in the Divemaster skill circuit.

Well done to Mark who completed his PADI Deep Specialty and Russell who completed his PADI Wreck Diver and PADI Deep Diver over two days under the guidance of Mike Fell.  The guys completed six dives over the weekend at Stoney Cove.  This is a great combination of diver training and goes hand in hand with the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox course.  Well done to all involved.

Rescue Diver Course
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onSaturday, August 04, 2007 5:27 PM

Emma, Chris, Emma & Matt worked really hard on both Saturday & Sunday this weekend under the instructional team of Cathy, Nick, Phil & Cath. Working through the ten practical training applications, the team develeoped the skills requried to move on to the four training scenarios.

For those of you not fortunate enough to have yet completed the PADI Rescue Diver course yet, the skills you learn in the pool and open water are invaluable should the worst happen.  We train you to develop the necessary abilities to deal with incidents such as a pankied diver both underwater and on the surface, to the more serious incidents such as an unconcious diver underwater.

Once you have completed the training you are encouraged by the dive team to come along and join in future Rescue Courses to refresh your skills.

Cressi Archimede 2 - NOW IN STORE
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onSaturday, June 23, 2007 2:25 PM

The NEW Cressi Archimede 2 dive computer ia now in-store.  This computer is designed with new and sophisticated software that during the dive can manage two different Nitrox mixes, which can be selected at any time of the actual dive.

The already excellent features of Archimede have been considerably improved both for scuba divers and for free divers who have the new GAUGE function as an indispensable instrument that can monitor all their dives in detail.

First of all, the saturation compartments have been increased from 9 to 12, for even more precise monitoring of the compartment saturation and de-saturation mechanisms.

And the possibility of using a second Nitrox mix during the same dive has also been introduced. This assists and faithfully monitors even those divers who choose to entrust the de-saturation of their organism to even higher oxygen-rich mixes, a practice that gives added safety to the dive a ...

Friday Pool Night
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onFriday, June 22, 2007 2:12 PM

Scuba Review - Alex L completed her PADI Scuba Tune Up this evening.  The scuba review is a theory and skills refresher for divers who have been out of the water for an extended period of time.

Vanessa spent a couple of hours in the classroom with Alex covering areas such as dive planning and the RDP.  The session then allows the diver to refresh their skills in two ways.  Firstly you get the opportunity to view the skills on video then its off to the pool.

The 5m deep Leeds International Pool is ideal for skill development and the scuba review is no exception.  Vanessa guided Alex through her 20 skills circuit and offered her hints and tips for improving her skills.

EFR First Aid At Work
DLL Blog By Alex Varnals onThursday, June 21, 2007 7:12 AM

After four days of fun, laughter and general first aid madness, the assessment day has arrived.  John, Yvette and Pauline all did really well under the watchful eye of our two EFR First Aid at Work assessors.  The assessment of the course takes three different formats, there is an exam, and two practical assessments.

The EFR First Aid at Work course is a valuable tool for many business' and allow participants plenty of time to practice and develop their skills over the four days.  The course is completely instructor lead, so allows business' to book staff on to the program at short notice.  Due to the number of EFR First Aid at Work assessors we have at Diving Leisure Leeds, we are able to offer this program at short notice and with flexible scheduling.

For further information about the EFR First Aid at Work Course please contact the dive centre on info@divingleis ...
